Do you make mistakes? Do you admit your mistakes? Do you apologize? Are you aware of them? Do you correct them? Do you blame others? We all make mistakes.

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” — A.Einstein

We’ve all made a mistake, whether a professional or private one, but what makes us different is how we react to the mistakes and how we deal with the newly arisen situation.

Before we look at what we can do if we’ve already made a mistake, we have to know why mistakes happen in the first place. According to definition “A mistake is a flaw in some action, calculation, thinking or judgment, which happens due to poor reasoning, not being careful or lack of knowledge.” We shouldn’t only think about how to correct mistakes, we need to face them. We need to see where they come from and what is it deep inside us that triggers us into making mistakes. Is it being lazy and not being careful or is it that we don’t want to think while working? Or is it our lack of knowledge in a given situation? If you’ve already made a mistake, here are some things that you can do:

  1. Accepting the mistake: Are you aware that you’ve made a mistake? Very often we’re unaware of the mistake and blame others for our flaws. The first thing you need to do is accept and admit that you were wrong. You need to take responsibility for your mistake. Accepting or not accepting is directly connected to ones ego. Our ego doesn’t allow us to admit that we were wrong because this means defeat/death for the ego.
  2. Apologizing: Apologizing in any given situation (unless it’s just for the sake of apologizing) is a quality of strong characters. We rarely apologize. We may admit that we’ve been wrong, but apologizing can be a big problem for us. Some believe that apologizing is a sign of weakness and submissiveness. This is again related to the ego. The ego has problem apologizing, not you!
  3. Forgiving yourself for the mistake: We all work and we all make mistakes. It’s not the end of the world if you’ve made a mistake. Depending on our character, we often punish ourselves for our mistakes and add additional burden to the already complicated situation. It’s much more important to face the problem, solve it and learn something for the future in order not to make the same mistake again.
  4. Solving the problem: The most important thing is to solve the problem yourself. Do everything in your power and correct the mistake. Try to limit engaging other resources into this (people, money, materials, etc.) to a minimum. Once the mistake has been made and the means have been used, every additional engagement is a cost.
  5. Analyzing the situation: Once you’ve solved the problem, do a bit of self-analyses and see why the mistake happened in the first place. Find out which factor influenced your decision. This is how you face the problem and also find the source of it. In this way, the likelihood of making the same mistake again is minimal.

Hopefully this tip was valuable to you, more of this you can find here.

I wish you success with your changes!
