TOW#455 — What are your aspirations?
I’ve been conducting interviews over the last few days with candidates for a position in our office (if you happen to know anyone, tell them to drop us an email so we can explain what we’re looking for), and so of course I’ve been asking lots of questions. Some of them are formal questions, but there are also some that are rather informal.
Nevertheless, one thing that’s really surprised me is that many people that I’ve met, especially those that have recently graduated university, or those with only a few years of working experience, don’t seem to know what their aspirations are in life. It’s very rare to find somebody who truly knows what they want.
You know, it’s nice when a person knows what they want in life, regardless of whether it achievable or not, at least when you’re little and don’t know anything about life itself. As time goes by, those aspirations change and adapt, but if you don’t know what your aspirations are then that doesn’t really speak very highly of you.
Now, since we’re talking about aspirations and what you’d like to be when you grow up, I’d like to share with you some ideas or guidelines on how you could go about reaching them:
- Trust in yourself and in others — the most important thing is to trust yourself. People that believe in themselves are also able to set goals in their life, and achieve them.
- Self-confidence — the majority of people are satisfied with little, and those same people will influence you to also be satisfied with little. Without self-confidence, you could very easily succumb to their influence. Take care of your self-confidence and work all the time to strengthen it.
- Motivation — when defining your aspirations, you’ll also need motivation — both from within and from your surroundings. Therefore, you should tell those that you trust about each of your aspirations, because the motivation they’ll provide will be more than handy in future.
- Uniqueness — be unique in what you wish for. You must tie your own uniqueness to your environs, as well as to your:
- Vision — no vision, no future! Each one of us has to have a vision of where they see themselves, whether it’s alone, with family, with friends… People without a vision are people without any aspirations!
- Creativity — in defining your choices… and in bringing them to fruition!
As we go through life and work towards achieving our dreams, knowing who we are and what we aspire towards is crucial to reaching our targets. It’s not easy to become what you aspire to be, but without aspirations you’ll be like an alien on this planet, a person without a compass. You need greater courage, perseverance and an unwavering belief in yourself.
Wishing you success with the changes to come,
