TOW#471 — Wishes for yourself…
Making New Year’s resolutions is something we adopted from the Western world without too many objections, but according to some articles I read only a handful of people actually stick to them, and even fewer actually achieve them.
So, either our expectations are too high or we overestimated ourselves a little when we made the resolution. I’m bringing this up because I can’t and don’t want to imagine you waking up on New Year’s Day next year disappointed that nothing or very little of what you wanted was accomplished.
Therefore:
- Be honest with yourself — many people make wishes not on the basis of what’s important to them, but on the basis of other people’s opinions or wishes, out of fear or shame that someone might make them less valuable. Being honest with yourself is the hardest thing to do, so maybe that should be your first resolution for this year!
- One by one — in trying to achieve multiple goals at once, we sometimes lose our way and in the end out of so many resolutions, none gets accomplished. It’s best to start achieving your goals/wishes one by one. In addition, they say that it’s best to start with one that’ll contribute something positive in the achievement of the next one, and so on…
- Small steps — as the first astronaut who landed on the moon said, it’s one small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind. The same goes for you — start with small and attainable steps, and during the weeks/months ahead just make them bigger!
- Surroundings — if things in your surroundings are hindering your progress, change them. If you want to change your diet, fill the fridge only with healthy food. If you want to wake up earlier, put your alarm clock far away so that you have to get up… What can I say, you both want to change, but don’t want to change anything around you!? Well, those two things simply don’t go together.
- Friends and family — one of the most important things that should certainly be on your wish list, that you either need to fix or pay a little more attention to. In addition, some of them will definitely help you in achieving the others.
Wishing you plenty of health and understanding in the New Year, success at work and at home, while for those that have made a resolution I sincerely hope that you achieve most of them.
Time for a brighter future!
