TOW#488 — Without a compass

A compass is something that helps many people figure out where they’re going or decide in which direction they want to go. Still, it looks like we’ve lost our compass and we don’t seem know where we’re going or even where we want to go. Looking at the world, but let’s focus on our country for now since the world is too big, it’s clear that we don’t have a clear vision of where we’re going and what we want, and here I’m mostly referring to the economic segment of our society.

When you’re without a compass you move in all directions, at random, trying all the doors, and walking through the one that opens… you simply expect that lady luck will smile upon you at some point.

But is there a way to get luck or the Sun to shine down on you faster? What’s the quickest way to find your compass?

Planning — we’ve written several times about planning and its importance, but here I’d like to give it special attention. You know, without good planning you’re really going to need a compass to help you navigate, but it still won’t be able to tell you if you’re making the right moves along the way!;

Strategy — quick question: how many of you have a strategy for what you’re doing? Do you know of a businessman or a company that’s made a strategy? If so, how many of them and do they make up a significant number of the total? A strategy is not a bible; it’s a guide that helps you know where you’re going and shows you how best to get there;

Fears — Fears are the most common reason for finding yourself in a situation where you’re without a compass. Fear appears most often because the company or our surroundings are moving in an unknown direction, or because we don’t want to make necessary changes and so end up chugging along like before! Fear’s best friend is panic, and when they join forces it’s inevitable that we find ourselves wandering without a compass. Try to not be afraid, because with this alone you’ll also be able to discover which direction you’re moving in;

Focus — only by focusing on what you’ve decided to do or accomplish, by focusing on your ideals and efforts, on work and lots of it, will you have a clear vision of where you’re going. Unfocused people are people without a compass, so don’t let them drag you towards their path;

Knowledge — without knowledge (theoretical and practical), it’s inevitable that you’ll also be without a compass. Knowledge is the basis for all further progress and is fundamental to the development and growth of a person or company. Only with the right knowledge and education can you be assured that you’ll always have a compass in your hands.

Work and effort — those who work have the right to make mistakes, and those who make mistakes learn and develop. Only with work and effort can you know whether or not you’re heading in the right direction. If you’re lazy or you wait for others to do your job for you, it’ll be the same for your entire life, and so your compass will always be in the hands of someone else instead of yours!

There are many more things that can help you find your compass and move in the desired direction, but it’s up to you and you alone whether you’ll be the one holding the compass.

Wishing you success with the changes to come,
