It would be ungrateful and even unfair of me if I didn’t use this moment and this medium of ours to congratulate VARDAR’s handball players on their success two weekends ago, and to thank them for the joy that they gave us during those days.

WELL DONE guys, respect! You filled us with beautiful energy, unforgettable moments and for a short while helped us to forget about our everyday problems and events around us.

Nevertheless, so that I don’t end up only congratulating them, let’s try to link their winning the Champions League with our weekly tips. Of all the things that can be learned from their win, on how a professional should behave (whether an athlete, engineer, doctor, economist, artist…) on the field or in an office — sacrifice, dedication, focus, teamwork, individuality, results, leadership, positive attitude, perseverance, strength, energy, maximum, strategy, art, skill, love, passion, faith, unselfishness, gratitude, euphoria, togetherness, power, family, support, and many more — I feel that one particular characteristic stands out and can be pointed to as the most important for achieving this success, and that is MOTIVATION.

What motivation can do for you can’t be achieved with any amount of money, gold, a car or some kind of material possession. In our part of the world, unfortunately, (but of course it’s very justified) the main motivational factor is money. When we talk to participants during our training seminars about what motivates them, in general, the answers are that money motivates them most. Money’s great, and you should ask for more if you think you deserve it, but nothing, no external material pleasure, can be compared with that inner urge, motive, will to do something, to achieve a particular result.

I’m glad that VARDAR managed to show us that it’s possible to turn this theory into reality. Despite all the quarrels in the club and beyond, the money, pressure, politics, and all manner of other issues, the players managed to maintain their concentration and with unprecedented motivation and fire in their hearts they left their bodies and souls on the court — and won.

“For me it’s unbelievable that the players, after all those years of money problems and daily media reports that the club’s falling apart, didn’t fall out and that the chemistry among them wasn’t damaged. In fact, the opposite happened. I have the feeling that what was happening with Vardar only brought the team even closer and a stubborn tenacity kicked in.”

Once again, WELL DONE guys!

P.S. I shouldn’t forget to mention the team’s influence in terms of the fact that thus far no organised and marketing-supported initiative has managed to gather such a huge number of people in one place, without any kind of organisation, prior planning and pressure.

Wishing you success with the changes to come,

Petar Lazarov
