TOW#550 — Adaptation

There’s increasingly more talk about the new normal, and the new ways of working, but somehow I get the feeling that most people are stubbornly resisting and want to keep the old way of working/living.

Well, it simply can’t be that way — you can either adjust or you can sit at home and complain that everyone’s to blame, except you. The new way of functioning is knocking on the door and the sooner you adapt, the sooner you’ll fit in and succeed in the new normal. Everything else will mean failure and no one but yourself will be to blame.

Here are some tips on how to adapt faster, but it’s up to you whether you’ll apply some or all of them, and perhaps add a few more of your own, or whether you’ll decide to just sit in your old comfort zone:

• Accept the changes — I put this on purpose because it’s number one, the most important and the most significant! Changes happen every day, but this time the change is so visible that if you don’t accept that there’ll be a change in the way we live, then don’t bother to read on;

• Get informed — don’t waste time on Internet nonsense, instead get informed about the changes that are happening globally, and be ahead of others who’ll adapt to those changes;

• Education — every change requires education. None of us was prepared for what’s happening and what (we don’t know) will happen, so as a result very few of us are properly educated on it. Nevertheless, today education is more accessible and easier than ever, you just have to want to educate yourself! Well, it’s up to you, and you alone!

• Help — nobody can be an expert on everything (only in our country do people think they are) nor do we need to be experts on everything, so there’s no shame in asking for help if you don’t know something or aren’t sure. In these times of rapid change, it’s better to ask and adapt faster than to carry on as you were;

• Take the chance — you won’t have many chances to adapt to the new working conditions. Take every opportunity that comes your way! Don’t hesitate and think that you can’t do it, but instead see how you can use it;

• Focus — we’ve said this many times, but it’s especially important here, because each adaptation requires focus on what you’re doing, on what’s being asked of you and everything related to the new way of working.

Yes, there are many other things you need to do, but as I mentioned above, you need to step out of your comfort zone and start changing and adapting to the new working conditions. If not, you’ll just stay exactly where you are!

Wishing you success with the changes to come,
