TOW#598 — School’s out!

Tip of the week

You’re getting this week’s tip on the day that the always much anticipated and celebrated school summer holidays begin, especially for all those who are directly involved in the education system, but also for those of us who are indirectly connected to it (parents/guardians, grandparents and other close and (more)distant relatives…)

What’s most important to understand is that summer holidays used to be a time when we were supposed to rest (I don’t know from what exactly) and focus on other things, but as time and our environments change, we too need to adapt to the new routine imposed by this particular holiday.

It’s not simply a matter of ‘letting the brain drift away’ for more than two months, on the contrary, we should be preparing for the next challenges. So, I’m using this week’s tip to help us all in one way or another to help our kids (after all, they’re our society’s future) to prepare for the upcoming period:

Social awareness — nowadays, awareness of the social problems that are burdening not only us, but the entire world, is greater than before. Use this period to develop your kids’ social skills, which will encourage social responsibility not only in them, but also in us. The ways you can do this are:

- Assist in the implementation of socially responsible activities;

- Get actively involved.

Practical work — encourage entrepreneurship in children from an early age. You can start by involving them in some basic things, up to including them in the implementation of work tasks. Our company encourages and implements work experience for students and high school pupils, in order to foster professional work habits among that age group. On the other hand, we’re seeing more and more children selling a variety of self-made trinkets, necklaces, paintings, etc. on our streets, which is to be welcomed, but beware of ruthless people!

Good relations — Good relationships are the foundations of progress. Without good relationships and good manners, there is no future. Unfortunately, things have flipped lately, and this seems to be the new norm. Everyone likes to work with well-mannered people, and while the bad-mannered may (sometimes) succeed, it’s only in the short term! Teach children to build good relationships and kindness!

Success (or not) — teach children to try to do new things, but also teach them not to worry if they fail at what they set out to do. Teach them to try all the time, over and over again, until they succeed. Help them throughout this process, but don’t do it for them. Prepare them for possible failure and support them with their next attempt. Success and failure are inseparable and we must learn both from an early age. All famous/successful people only succeeded after many failures! If they had given up after all those failures, they wouldn’t have been successful.

Constant learning — teach them that there’s no such thing as a completed to-do list. Education is an ongoing process that’s taking place all the time. Every day is new and brings new knowledge with it. We must teach them to explore, to study, to ‘suffer’, to sweat and when they’re done, to move on to something else.

We can all help in the implementation of these things in one way or another. Each of us can identify with at least something in the above-mentioned tips, and can get involved either directly or indirectly. It’s important for each of us (adults) to change and to help, for a better future for everyone.

Enjoy the holidays guys/kids,
