#TOW — Setting a goal!
A lot of people wander through life. They feel as if they’re on their own. They work hard but still don’t progress.
The key reason they feel this way is the fact that they haven’t spent enough time thinking about WHAT they want from life, i.e. they haven’t set formal goals.
To reach a goal you need to go through the process of thinking about your future, something that forces you to turn your vision into an accomplishable reality. The process of setting a goal will firstly enable you to get to know yourself, and then it will give you the chance to choose where you want to go in life. Simply, by setting a goal, you’ll know what it is you want to achieve and where to mostly put your strength into. Additionally, it will make you not easily get distracted by other things and consequently stray from your path.
Setting a goal is quite a difficult thing, but at the same time it can be quite simple. The weight depends on what you want to achieve in life and how realistic you are about it. You should define long-term and short-term goals. Long-term goal are those you achieve after a longer period of time, a period starting now and continuing for the next 10 years. Short-term goals are actually the ones that help the accomplishing of the long-term ones. They are defined during a period of several months to maximum a year. After that you define new ones, but the goals still have to be in line with the previously defined long-term goals.
No matter which goal you set, here are some tips that can help you define them:
- Every goal should be positive — the mind cannot recognize a negative goal. For example: Not to smoke within a year, should be: To lead a healthy life within a year!
- Be precise — by setting dates, time, year…only in this way will you know when you need to accomplish it.
- Priorities — once you define them, set priorities for accomplishing the goals.
- Set realistic goals — the point is to be realistic when setting the goals, not something that you would never be able to accomplish. Only by setting realistic goals will you be able to succeed in life.
- Write them down — only in this way will you be able to remind yourself about them.
- Time frame — set a time frame about when you want to accomplish your goals.
- Check — set a certain time for when to check the accomplishing of your goals and in this way you’ll see how far along you are. It will help you keep on track with accomplishing them.
